Engagement Session at Loveland Pass with Dogs
When Owen reached out about photographing what he told Bailey would be their couples session with their pups during their vacation in Colorado, little did she know he had something much more special planned. What started as a couples photoshoot in one of Colorado’s most breathtaking mountain locations turned into an unforgettable surprise proposal—and of course their adorable golden retrievers were there to be a part of this special moment!

About Loveland Pass
Loveland Pass offers some of the most spectacular mountain views in Colorado for your engagement photos. Located near Keystone, just about an hour from Denver, this high-altitude location sits at an impressive 11,991 feet above sea level, providing panoramic views of the Continental Divide that will take your breath away (literally and figuratively!).
During Owen and Bailey’s session, the fall colors were absolutely popping against the dramatic mountain backdrop. The flora was a vibrant red and the weather was perfect with lots of warm sunshine—we truly couldn’t have asked for better conditions. Best of all? Their pups had so much fun exploring the trail and soaking in the fresh mountain air!

Rules for Engagement Photos at Loveland Pass
Dog-Friendly Location: One of the best parts about Loveland Pass? It’s completely dog-friendly! Owen and Bailey’s golden retrievers had a blast exploring the area and added so much personality to their engagement photos. Be sure to bring leashes for your pups though!
No Photography Permit Required: Unlike most Colorado locations, Loveland Pass doesn’t require photography permits at this time, making it an accessible choice for your engagement session. Always check the Forest Service website for the most up to date information. Permit information can change quickly and it’s your responsibility to know the rules!
Free Parking: The parking lot is free and easily accessible, though it can fill up on busy weekends or evenings.

Important Weather and Planning Tips for Your Loveland Pass Photo Session
Dress Warmly: Even when it’s 70 degrees in Denver, temperatures at Loveland Pass could be 30+ degrees colder due to the high elevation. Always bring warm layers, hats, and gloves!
Weather Changes Quickly: Mountain weather is unpredictable. What starts as a sunny day can quickly turn cloudy or even snowy, so come prepared for anything and be flexible. Never risk your safety for “the shot”!
Lighting Considerations: The sun drops behind the mountains much earlier than the official sunset time for nearby towns. Plan your session timing accordingly to catch that golden hour magic. I recommend ending your session 45-60 minutes before the official sunset time.
Altitude Awareness: At nearly 12,000 feet, some people may experience altitude effects. Take it easy, walk slow, acclimate in the days before your session, and stay hydrated.
