Your wedding day details tell a beautiful story, and capturing them through an artfully arranged flat lay preserves these special details forever. As your photographer, I’m passionate about creating stunning detail images that honor the sentiment of the items and the thoughtfulness you’ve poured into your wedding day. This guide will walk you through my recommendations and inspiration for curating your own wedding details flat lay!

What is a Wedding Details Flat Lay?

Simply put: a flat lay is an intentionally arranged collection of your wedding day accessories and details, photographed from above. These images capture the essence of your wedding style and preserve the intricate elements that might otherwise be forgotten after the big day.

How I Style Your Flat Lay

I will bring a carefully curated collection of styling materials to complement your wedding aesthetic, including:

  • Premium styling mats in various textures and colors
  • Elegant ring trays and styling blocks
  • Delicate chiffon ribbons
  • Additional styling accessories to enhance your flat lay

We’ll work together before your wedding day so I know what color styling accessories to bring and how I can bring your specific vision to life. In your wedding planning questionnaire, you can upload images of your details to help me best match my styling tools to your items. I will also coordinate with your florist to incorporate loose florals into the arrangement (or use your bouquet or boutonniere), adding organic elements that tie your details to your overall wedding design!

What Items To Include in Your Wedding Flat Lay

In this section, I’ll walk you through some examples of what you may want to include in your wedding details flat lay! You do not have to include every item if it isn’t important to you, you don’t have it, or it doesn’t match your style. These are just suggestions and I always encourage out of the box ideas that portray your unique style and taste.

Jewelry and Accessories

Attire Elements

  • Bride’s shoes
  • Fur shawls or wraps
  • Bow tie or necktie
  • Groom’s shoes
  • Pocket square
  • Designer labels or hangers (I always bring a wooden white hanger for dress photos)

Personal Touches

  • Signature perfume or cologne
  • Family photographs
  • Trinkets from your dates
  • Special wedding day gifts

Tips for Preparing Your Wedding Day Details

  • Gather Everything in Advance: The morning of your wedding can be wonderfully busy, so I recommend gathering your flat lay items the week before! Simply place all your details in a designated box or bag that I can just grab when I arrive. If you want to, it can be helpful to have little notes included with any unique or sentimental items so I understand what they are and how to best capture them.
  • Share Photos Beforehand: I encourage you to send me photos of your details prior to the wedding day. This helps me prepare the perfect styling materials to complement your items.
  • Timing Matters: I typically photograph these details upon arrival while you’re getting ready. Having everything collected and ready allows me to work efficiently while you enjoy getting ready! I don’t want to have to interrupt you to ask where something is or what it means.
  • Include Unexpected Elements: Don’t hesitate to include unique items that tell your story – perhaps ticket stubs from your first date or a note from a loved one with marriage advice.

Supporting You as Your Wedding Photographer

My goal is to create stunning detail images that you’ll treasure alongside all your other wedding photos! I take time to carefully style each element, considering composition, lighting, and the overall story we’re telling through these images. I like to show up early to get started on these and usually spend 30 minutes styling and capturing your flat lay, while my second photographer captures the dress!

Please me know if you have any questions about preparing your details or if you’d like specific styling suggestions for your details! I’m here to help make sure your vision comes to life!
