Why Couples Choose the Woodlands Wedding Venue in Colorado
Woodlands offers a perfect blend of contemporary design and natural beauty with its modern-industrial style, featuring a beautiful white venue with black trim. Inside, white-washed wood walls and black accent fixtures create the perfect lighting for photography. The Perfect Location for a Colorado Mountain Wedding
Nestled in the tranquil foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Morrison, the Woodlands provides an idyllic backdrop for couples looking to exchange vows surrounded by natural beauty.
The venue’s location offers the perfect balance – close enough to Denver for convenient guest access but far enough into the mountains to provide that authentic Colorado wedding experience.
At just 30 minutes from downtown Denver, guests coming from out of town will appreciate the easy drive. The Morrison location also puts you close to charming small-town amenities and accommodations while providing that secluded mountain feeling that so many couples desire for their special day.
My Experience Photographing a Spring Wedding at the Woodlands
I had the privilege of capturing a vibrant spring wedding at the Woodlands and this wedding day perfectly showcased the venue’s versatility and the staff’s exceptional service.
Their celebration was filled with joyful moments – from their heartfelt private vows exchanged in a secluded spot on the property to their lively reception where the groom crowd-surfed and guests created an impromptu jump rope from their ties! The couple’s choice of bright spring colors popped beautifully against the venue’s neutral backdrop, creating stunning photos throughout the entire day.
One of the most impressive aspects of their wedding was how the venue handled unexpected challenges. Despite facing incredibly strong winds (reaching 80mph!), the Woodlands team quickly transitioned to their indoor ceremony option without missing a beat. Even when the power briefly went out, the staff remained calm and professional, ensuring the celebration continued smoothly. This experience highlighted the venue’s excellent weather contingency plans – a crucial feature for any Colorado mountain wedding.

The Perfect Setting: Woodlands Venue Spaces and Features
Ceremony Options
Woodlands Wedding Venue offers a picturesque outdoor ceremony site that showcases Colorado’s natural beauty. The ceremony area sits behind the main barn and features breathtaking views that create a stunning backdrop for your vows. What I love most as a photographer is how the large sliding barn doors can open to create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces.
For weather concerns, the indoor ceremony option is equally beautiful. Having photographed both indoor and outdoor moments at Woodlands, I can attest that either choice provides a magical setting.
Reception Space
The main reception hall features soaring white ceilings, exposed wooden beams, and plenty of windows that fill the space with natural light. This bright, airy environment creates perfect conditions for photography while giving you a blank canvas to bring your wedding vision to life.
The venue can comfortably accommodate up to 200 guests, with versatile space for dining, dancing, and mingling. The in-house sound system ensures your dance floor will be lively all night long.
Outdoor Spaces and Patios
One of Woodlands’ best features is its large covered patio that wraps around one side of the barn. Fully heated for year-round use, this space works beautifully for cocktail hours and gives guests an outdoor option regardless of season or weather.
The grounds also include various lounging areas and space for lawn games, offering guests plenty of opportunities to relax and enjoy the mountain setting between wedding events.
Getting Ready Spaces
Woodlands provides two dedicated getting ready suites that offer comfortable, private spaces for wedding preparation. These well-appointed rooms include everything you need to relax and prepare for your big moment – comfortable seating, good lighting, and plenty of mirrors. From a photographer’s perspective, these spaces offer excellent natural light for your getting ready moments.

Planning Your Woodlands Wedding: Practical Information

You’ll have use of the main event hall, the outdoor ceremony lawn, and various picturesque spots for photos. Additionally, tables, chairs, and a selection of decor items are included, along with a bridal suite and groom’s room for getting ready. If you choose to hire a live band, bands require the use of the groom’s suite as a green room, so you lose access to it.

Can We Bring Our Own Vendors?
Woodlands works with select preferred vendors for catering, bar service, coordination, and music. This ensures quality service but does mean you’ll need to choose from their approved list for these categories. For other services like florals, cake, photography, and transportation, you have more flexibility to bring in your own vendors with venue approval.
Can We Bring Our Own Food/Drink?
You need to arrange your catering through one of their required full-service caterers. You have options to choose from to fit a variety of budgets and tastes. However, you can’t *technically* bring your own caterer.
Alcohol must also be catered by their approved vendor – Peak Beverage.
If you’d like a special food-related service, like an ice cream truck, you can arrange it with the venue!
Timing and Schedule Considerations
Wedding days at the Woodlands typically run for 8-10 hours, with a required end time of 10 PM due to county regulations. You can arrive at noon for preparation, with ceremonies typically starting no earlier than 4 PM. As your photographer, I can help you create a timeline that maximizes these hours for capturing all your special moments.
How Long Can Our Event Last?
The official event time is limited to a maximum of 6 hours, and your wedding is required to end by 10 PM (with clean-up finished by 11 PM) due to county regulations. You can arrive at the venue at 12 PM to start getting ready. The earliest ceremony time is 4 PM.
What is the Maximum Capacity of Woodlands Wedding Venue?
Woodlands can accommodate up to 200 guests, making it perfect for both intimate gatherings and larger celebrations. There are 200 cross-back reception chairs, 200 ceremony chairs, and all the tables you’d need for the guest count, which are included in your venue rental.
How Much Does it Cost to Get Married at Woodlands Wedding Venue Colorado?
The cost of getting married at Woodlands varies depending on the season and the day of the week. Prices range from $7,500 to $11,000. You can check out their pricing here!

Seasonal Considerations for Your Woodlands Wedding
Spring (March-May)
Spring brings fresh greenery and early blooms to the property. Weather can be unpredictable (as Matt and Megan discovered!), but the venue’s weather contingency plans ensure a beautiful celebration regardless. Consider pastel colors and floral-forward designs to enhance the season’s natural beauty.
Summer (June-August)
Summer offers reliable weather and extended daylight hours, perfect for taking full advantage of the outdoor spaces. The mountains provide a natural cooling effect, keeping temperatures more comfortable than in Denver. Evening golden hour photos are particularly stunning during summer months. Plus, the venue has a stunning patch of lavender that comes to life in the summer!
Fall (September-October)
Fall transforms the surrounding landscape with golden colors. The contrast of autumn hues against the white barn structure makes for a spectacular setting. Consider rich, warm color palettes that complement the seasonal changes outside.
Winter (November-February)
Winter creates a magical snow-covered setting at Woodlands. The white barn becomes truly enchanting against snowy landscapes, and the cozy indoor spaces provide a warm haven for your celebration. The heated patio allows for some outdoor elements even in colder months, making Woodlands truly an all-season venue.
Tips for Couples Considering Woodlands Colorado
Based on my experience photographing weddings at this venue, here are some practical tips:
- Book early – This popular venue fills up quickly, especially for prime-season weekends. I recommend booking 12-18 months in advance.
- Consider a first look – The property has so many beautiful photo locations. A first look gives us more time to utilize these spots without keeping your guests waiting during cocktail hour.
- Have a solid weather backup plan – Colorado mountain weather can change quickly. Work with your planner and the venue to develop a clear contingency plan.
- Maximize the indoor-outdoor flow – The sliding barn doors create a unique opportunity to blend indoor and outdoor elements throughout your day.
- Coordinate vendor arrival times – The noon arrival time means carefully scheduling hair, makeup, and other vendor services to make the most of your day.
