If you’re dreaming of an intimate, breathtaking, and truly extraordinary Jackson Hole elopement, the Wedding Tree is the perfect spot. Nestled in a secluded corner with unparalleled views of the Tetons, this location offers a magical backdrop for your special day. As a Jackson Hole elopement photographer and someone who helps couples create their dream day, in this blog I’ll be sharing tips to help you plan the perfect Wedding Tree elopement.
Your Wedding Tree, Jackson Hole Elopement
The Wedding Tree is one of the most popular spots for Jackson Hole elopements and intimate weddings. It could be considered a hidden gem because of its private and secluded feel and it’s less busy than Grand Teton National Park. It has unparalleled views of the Tetons for your ceremony and overall beautiful natural scenery.
The Wedding Tree is an approximately 45-minute drive from downtown Jackson. There is no address, but it’s located about 5 miles east of Kelly, WY, on the Gros Ventre Rd. You can see the directions here!
Best Time of Year to Elope at Wedding Tree
You can elope at the Wedding Tree throughout the year, depending on the scenery you’d like to have and the weather conditions you’re willing to endure. Winters are going to be cold and snowy, however, if you’re into snow activities, you can absolutely elope here during winter!
I recommend eloping here during the late spring to early fall months. The weather is generally pleasant, and the scenery is beautiful! It’s especially pretty with fall foliage and when wildflowers are in full bloom in late spring and summer!
The weather here can be unpredictable, as Mother Nature often is, so be prepared for changing weather conditions, bring layers, and consider having a backup plan!
Permits and Logistics
To hold your elopement at the Wedding Tree, you’ll need a Special Use Permit from the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The permit ensures that your event adheres to the guidelines set by the forest service to protect the natural environment and maintain the area’s beauty, and it costs $200.The wedding site use is on a first-come, first-served basis based on the date the event request is received. You must send in your request at least 30 days prior to your elopement date, so, unfortunately, this spot is not going to allow for a very last-minute elopement.
Your elopement photographer must also get a special photography permit to capture your big day. For that they should check out this site!
You can reserve the Wedding Tree for 1-5 hours; however, this doesn’t guarantee exclusive access to the location. This is still public land, so there might be tourists and other visitors walking around.
Here, they have a parking lot that can fit up to 6 cars, so if you’d like to invite more people, encourage your guests to carpool or book a shuttle service.
The Wedding Tree is located in a secluded spot, so you won’t find modern amenities nearby. The closest bathrooms and shops are located 5 miles west of the Wedding Tree in the town of Kelly.
When you elope at the Wedding Tree, you won’t be allowed to set up any type of arches, have any props, or scatter anything (no flower petals, birdseed, rice, etc.). With all that natural beauty, you don’t really need them, but it’s something to keep in mind!
