Windy Point Campground Wedding Cost & Reservation Guide
Before diving into Faith and Angel’s beautiful day, here’s everything you need to know about securing this stunning venue:
If you’re dreaming of a mountain wedding in Colorado, your perfect venue may be Windy Point Campground. Windy Point has 2 potential ceremony locations available for you to rent. Like Faith and Angel did, I highly recommend reserving both venue options: the Forest Loop for your ceremony and the Lake Loop for your ceremony or reception. The campground can accommodate up to 100 people, so it’s great for intimate and slightly larger weddings.
Overall, this is a very affordable mountain venue (just over $500 for both Loops), and it is very accessible with many amenities and activities for guests. If you’d like to get married here, note that Windy Point is only available between May 18th to September 30th each year. You can make your reservation here up to 6 months in advance.
If you are dreaming of a truly intimate mountain wedding with all your favorite people, I really recommend considering Windy Point Campground for your Colorado wedding! There is a vast amount of space, breathtaking views, and endless photo opportunities to bring your dreams to life. Having photographed at this venue multiple times, I can say it is always magical and I’d love to capture your day too!

- Book up to 6 months in advance through Recreation.gov
- Consider reserving both loops ($534 total) for privacy
- Ceremony permit included in reservation
- Check seasonal closure dates (closed October-May)
Vendor Considerations
- Provide clear directions to all vendors
- There are no indoor getting ready spaces, so you will need your hair and makeup team to meet you at a getting ready location like a stunning cabin!
- Setup time begins at 2 PM (check with the recreation office if you need more time, or your planner may do this for you)
- Limited electricity – plan accordingly
- Recommend battery-powered speakers
- Catering needs prep tables
- Consider rental delivery timing
Weather Planning
- Monitor mountain forecasts
- Have ceremony and reception backup plans
- Rent a tent or side covers for the pavilion
- Bring blankets for guests, or water/sunscreen in the summer
- Consider heel protectors for formal shoes
Wedding Timeline Tips
- Allow 30 minutes for guest arrival and seating

- Consider a first look to maximize photo opportunities
- Consider sunset portraits at Sapphire Point Overlook or a nearby meadow

Windy Point Wedding Venue: Forest Loop vs Lake Loop Comparison
Forest Loop Wedding Site
The Forest Loop requires a short (but slightly steep) walk through the trees to reach the ceremony site. This location offers clear mountain views with a little nook carved out between the surrounding trees. It is ethereal, especially when the sun starts shining over the mountain at golden hour! There is no reception or covered space here, but there are bathrooms and benches.
- Ceremony only space
- Mountain views
- No covered area
- $240 to rent with a 2PM check in and 12PM check out
- 30 vehicles max
- Pet friendly
Lake Loop Wedding Site
The Lake Loop is situated along the shore of Lake Dillon, providing completely undisturbed views of the mountains and lake. This is truly a serene spot nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. You may even get lucky with sail boats in the backdrop of your ceremony! The Lake Loop reservation does come with access to the pavilion for your ceremony. The sides of the pavilion aren’t technically covered, so I still recommending renting some kind of weather protection if you plan to party here!
- Ceremony and reception space
- Mountain and lake views
- Covered pavilion access
- $294 to rent with a 2PM check in and 12PM check out
- 30 vehicles max
- Pet friendly
- ADA accessible

Best Getting Ready Locations Near Windy Point Campground in Dillon, CO
Since there aren’t any getting ready suites at the campground, Faith and Angel’s wedding day began at two cozy Airbnbs near their wedding location in Dillon, CO. Faith got ready with her mom and bridesmaids, while Angel and the groomsmen (and his mom) prepared at a separate location. The morning was filled with excitement and anticipation, made even more special by having their beloved dogs there to join in the preparations.

First Look in a Forest with Their Dogs
After getting ready, we met at a secluded forest trail in the mountains for Faith and Angel’s first look with their dogs. Having their three adorable pups present for this moment made it even more meaningful and personal. The autumn colors created the perfect backdrop for this emotional moment, and I’m honored I was there to capture it all!

Including Your Dogs in Your Colorado Wedding
Faith and Angel’s three dogs were an integral part of their wedding day, and Windy Point Campground proved to be the perfect dog-friendly location! The pups were there for the first look and even signed the marriage license as official witnesses to their special day! (Want to know more about having your dogs sign your marriage license? Check out my complete guide here!)
So, if you’d like to include your dogs in your Colorado wedding – Windy Point Campground could be the spot for you, too!
Windy Point Campground Wedding Ceremony at the Lake Loop
For their ceremony, Faith and Angel opted for a lakeside mountain ceremony and then we later ventured to the top of the Forest Loop for their golden hour wedding portraits! The Forest Loop has a short, but a little steep, walk to the top. Their grandparents are some of the most important people in their lives, so for their comfort, Faith and Angel chose to keep everyone down by the lake for all their wedding events! Honestly, both the Forest and Lake Loop are absolutely breathtaking and you can’t go wrong with either for your ceremony.

Golden Hour Wedding Photos at Sapphire Point Overlook
For golden hour photos, I have taken many couples to Sapphire Point Overlook, just a 10-minute drive from Windy Point Campground. The overlook offers stunning views and the perfect setting for those extraordinary sunset shots.
In the summer, the road between Sapphire Point and Windy Point is lined with fields of golden wildflowers and truly the most dreamy backdrop. I once had a bride request to pop out into the field here and they became some of my favorite wedding photos from their day! These kinds of fun, spontaneous moments are what your big day should be about! They allow you to truly enjoy your day, and me to capture all those candid, authentic moments!

Windy Point Campground Wedding Reception at the Lake Loop
The Lake Loop is definitely the best choice for your mountain reception though. There are benches permanently placed at the pavilion that you can use for your celebration making set up pretty easy. Many couples opt to install a form of tent around the pavilion to keep out any extra wind or the chill of the night once the sun goes down.
The reception was filled with joyful, heartfelt moments, including their playful cake cutting where Faith and Angel couldn’t resist smashing cake into each other’s faces! As the sun began to set, we took advantage of the golden light for the most romantic canoe photos on Lake Dillon, creating some of the most magical images of the day (and that I’ve ever taken).
During your reception, it’s also an option to sneak away to Sapphire Point Overlook to enjoy some alone time and get some extra dreamy golden hour photos. This is another wedding ceremony location, so please note it could be busy when you arrive, but I know a few spots off the beaten path!

Tips for Your Windy Point Campground Wedding
If you’ve been planning to get married at the Windy Point Campground as well, here are some suggestions to help you make your day perfect:
- Make time for golden hour photos at Sapphire Point Overlook! The views there are stunning, and it’s only a 10-minute drive from Windy Point. I always recommend this combination to my couples.
- Rent both the Forest and Lake Loop, so you’ll have access to a covered pavilion. It’s always good to have a backup plan if you’re planning to celebrate your love outdoors!
- Prepare for the weather with heaters for cooler months and fans for hot summer days. Bring water, sunscreen, blankets, and jackets for when it cools down after dark.
- Be mindful of the local wildlife as they are active in this area.
- Hire a Wedding Pet Attendant to provide the best care for your pups while you say your vows and party under the pavilion!

Windy Point Colorado Wedding Photography Package
Faith and Angel’s love story deserved to be captured in all its seasons. Before their fall wedding day, we spent a magical winter afternoon in Estes Park for their engagement session. The day was filled with adventure – exploring the historic Stanley Hotel, chasing the golden light in Rocky Mountain National Park, and ending with cozy s’mores at their cabin as snow fell softly outside. It was the perfect preview of the joy and genuine moments their wedding would bring.
In the months leading up to their celebration, Faith and Angel thoughtfully planned every detail of their Windy Point wedding. During our venue walkthrough, we explored all the special spots where their day would unfold – from the lakeside ceremony location to the forest loop where they would take their first photos as newlyweds. Their excitement grew with each detail they planned, from coordinating their three pups’ roles in the ceremony to choosing the perfect spot for their sunset canoe portraits. Their wedding day itself was everything they’d dreamed of and more. Every moment, from their intimate first look on the trail to their candlelit grand exit on Lake Dillon, reflected their adventurous spirits and deep love for each other.

Here’s what Faith and Angel shared about their experience:
Kind Words from the Couple
“I literally have no words to describe how perfect our experience was having Logan as our photographer. It was very important to us to capture all of those candid natural photos and she did just that. She made every little detail we wanted come true. Spent an entire day in Estes taking the most perfect engagement photos and even brought along another fantastic photographer to help shoot our big day! Both my husband and I are camera shy and have never taken professional photos before hand and Logan made it feel so natural and fun! Not only did she take the best engagement and wedding photos but she literally helped us plan our whole wedding timeline, gave us recommendations for rental places, coordinators, and makeup and hair artists! So very glad we chose her as our photographer and would definitely recommend her to anyone! If you are still questioning who to chose this is your sign, CHOSE MRS. FERREE PHOTOGRAPHY!”
